See on Scoop.it – Tech Pedagogy
I am nota big Pearson fan, but DanMeyer is definitely his own man there. His 10 design principles for engaging math tasks could just as easily be more generally, “How to engage learners with careful design”.
Here are the ten. Adapt them for your own tech pedagogy. I certainly will. Make sure you look at the comments as well. Many more rules for engagement.
1. Perplexity is the goal of engagement.
2.Concise questions are more engaging than lengthy ones
3. Pure math can be engaging. Applied math can be boring.
4. Use photos and video to establish context, rather than words, whenever possible.f
5. Use stock photography and stock illustrations sparingly.
6. Set a low floor for entry, a high ceiling for exit.
7. Use progressive disclosure to lower the extraneous load of your tasks.you don’t have to write everything at once on the same page
8. Ask for guesses.
9. Make math social.Summarize the class’ aggregate responses with a bar chart.
10. Highlight the limits of a student’s existing skills and knowledge.
11. Go crazy.
